The work we do all year, every year – to build our network of advocates, to educate lawmakers on issues that impact our community, and to protect democracy through free and fair elections – is only possible because of generous donors like you.
Invest In Our Work
This year, on #GivingTuesday, Secure Families Initiative kicks off our week-long fundraising drive – every dollar you help us raise will enable more members of our community to be in the room with the policy decision-makers who impact our lives.
Here is a small glimpse of what we accomplished in 2024:
We had a major legislative win for the safety of military families. One of our policy priorities already made it into the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)! Starting next year, service branches will have to share data with Congress and military families about how their compassionate and humanitarian reassignment policies are working. This is the first victory for our Campaign for PCS Safety. This briefing will, for the first time, pull back the curtain on the realities of military life for families of color, who make up more than 40% of our community. Read SFI’s Director of Organizing, Brandi Jones’s Origin Story of the PCS Safety Campaign and SFI’s press release to learn more.
We defended military and overseas voters from harassing lawsuits this election, and we won every time. From Pennsylvania and Michigan to Georgia and North Carolina, SFI mobilized alongside our diverse movement partners to defend voting rights in the court of law. Each time, we were the sole voice representing actively-serving military voters – these legal victories prove how indispensable it is for us to elevate our stories of lived experience.
We built our organizing team and on-boarded 3 incredible organizers. This fall Shalena Critchlow, Ellie Walker, and Daniella Horne joined our staff – each of them are incredible members of the military community who have served as leaders and volunteers at SFI for several years. We are thrilled to have them join our team!
And we continue to push back against attempts to politicize our military ….
With news of the President-elect’s plan to create loyalty boards in order to subvert the military promotion process, SFI immediately responded by meeting with key Members of Congress on the Hill to make sure decision-makers understand the constitutional AND real-world implications for ALL servicemembers if leaders were to be subjected to a loyalty test.
This year, when challenges tested our resolve as a community, SFI built a solid, inclusive foundation for members to come together and organize. Next year, we will continue to take on the fights that matter. Please consider a contribution of $25, $50, or $100 today.
