Alexis McDonald coordinates Secure Families Inatiative’s legislative affairs strategy to advance diplomacy-first foreign policy, demilitarized domestic law enforcement, and a strong democracy accessible to all.
As the spouse of a Navy Sailor and the daughter of immigrants, she has first-hand experience of the unique challenges faced by military families and underserved communities. Alexis comes to SFI with previous experience as Congressional staff and as a government relations leader.
Alexis began her career in the New York State Senate, where a portion of her portfolio included K-12 education and intergovernmental relations. After a permanent change of station move to Virginia, Alexis worked at a prominent health advocacy organization to ensure equitable access to services during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Alexis has made appearances on national news programs including CNN Tonight. She is also a regular contributor to the CBS affiliate WTKR, Virginia Beach on military family and national defense issues.
In addition to her work with SFI, Alexis served as President for the USS John C. Stennis Family Readiness Group, which provided support to 2,500 families.
Alexis graduated from the University at Albany, State University of New York. She currently resides in Hampton Roads Virginia with her husband and daughter.
