Laurie Sherman is a lawyer with significant experience in voter protection and campaign organizing and international affairs. For the 2020 and 2022 general election, she worked on a Pennsylvania Voter Protection team as a logistical coordinator for the 34 western counties. She has organized volunteers to canvass in Virginia elections and in 2019 spent 10 weeks in a field office getting out the vote. She has acted as an election observer in Bulgaria, Serbia, Russia and Uzbekistan through the National Democratic Institute and the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe.
Laurie has a J.D. from Georgetown University and is a member of the bars of New York and the District of Columbia. She has practiced law at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, worked as a sole practitioner and served in the General Counsel’s Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the Legal Advisor’s Office at the State Department and the International Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission. During her government service, she interacted extensively with members and staff of the Senate and the House. She carried out dozens of short term assignments funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development and the World Bank. From 2015 to 2017, she was the Anti-Corruption Advisor at the Mission to Serbia of the OSCE. She is now a Special Advisor to the Coalition for Integrity, a non-profit organization promoting ethics and transparency in government.
She is the co-Chair of the Political Committee of the J Street DC Metro Chapter and in that capacity fundraises and coordinates phone-banking and other activities for J Street endorsed candidates for President, Senate and House.
Laurie’s son is an active duty Marine, fortunately, stationed close by.
